Bantams are smaller chickens, but can you get each of the breeds in a bantam size? so for instance, could I get a Bantam Rhode Island Red?? The Dogmother Posted May 22, 2009 Share Posted May 22, 2009 Not necessarily. Let me explain; we tend to use the term bantam as a generic term to cover all tiny sized chooks. To be pedantic, only a few, such as Dutch and Japanese, are true bantams as there is no larger version. There are more miniatures, though; these are roughly a third of the size of the larger bird and I have a few of them. Not every large breed has a miniature version though.
