aureomycin help and advice

Recommended Posts

my hens had a respiratory problem a week or so ago and the vet perscribed aureomycin (I requested an approved treatment after reading things about Baytril etc) this has cleared up all of the hens except for 1 who still has a runny nose, they are all now laying well. what do you think i should do with the one who has the runny nose?

Hmmmm, well if its just a snotty nose then personally I would try not to worry & add some Citricidal to their water. It may be the tail end of their illness or even an allergic reaction to her bedding.

Do you use hay or straw at all, as this can cause symptoms like this?

I only use hemcore for both the run and the house (I have lost one in the past through eating straw and getting an impacted crop). They do all seem very bright eyed and bushy tailed including the one with the runny nose. prior to getting the antibiotics I tried ACV and citricidal but obviously the problem was bacterial, I have done the recommended nose sniff and I know prior to the antibiotics there was a real pong but now there is nothing.

I was not given any guidance on how long to medicate for with the aureomycin so I have been doing so for the last 10 days, does this seem reasonable.
