Slug pellets!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

Our girls escaped their netting last night and had a bit of a jolly in the garden before we found them (clever chickens!) and we're a bit worried that they might have eaten slug pellets that had been put around the new plants :(

Am guessing we should discard today's eggs just in case but has anyone had this problem before?

And does anyone know about the eco wool slug pellets as would like to try them but seem to only get them on the internet.

Thanks for any advice

Slug pellets containing metaldehyde are not good for chickens.

Effects on birds: Death of birds feeding in metaldehyde-treated areas has been reported, although the precise acute oral LD50 values or subchronic dietary LC50 values were unavailable. Excitability, tremors, muscle spasms, diarrhea, and difficult or rapid breathing was observed in poultry that were exposed to metaldehyde.
