I'm worried about Rofl :(

Recommended Posts

Last weekend our Miss Pepperpot Lmao was huddled under the table in the garden - I suspected it was because she's black and it was a scorching day. The next day she was back to normal and has been fine since. Both Gingernut Rangers were absolutley fine - no problems at all.

Last night I took the eglu lid off and noticed a yellow poo on the droppings tray - on closer inspection it was a splattered egg yolk.

Our usual egg production of three a day has reduced recently but I put that down to the heat and possible moulting - we've found a few feathers here and there.

This evening our little girl Rofl (Ginger Nut Ranger) was no where to be seen - after searching the garden we found her all hunched up under the table, hiding behind a watering can. It can't be the heat as it's been rainy and dank all day.

I tried to coax her out with some corn, she came out slowly and half heartedly pecked around but she wasn't really interested. Lmao and Pmsl are both absolutely fine.

We unearthed a part of the garden yesterday that had previously been covered by bark chippings and membrane - there were quite a lot of slugs underneath so I'm thinking Rofl might have overdone it and eaten too many which has given her a poorly tummy. There are a few runny poops outside but no idea which of the three girls has done them but Rofl did a couple of solid yet small poops whilst under observation.

We've just picked her up and popped her in the eglu for the night so we'll see how she is tomorrow. We've only had our Omlet chickens since the beginning of March so we are quite inexperienced with chicken illnesses! If she's still off it tomorrow I haven't got a clue what to try first so any advice or tips would be gratefully received.

Thank you :)

We had a similar worry with one of our chickens. She was off colour and also sounded a bit 'wheezy' She finally passed a softie and was as right as rain in 5 mins. She was off colour for about 6 hours and had I assume been the culprit of a couple of shellless eggs in the 2 days prior to that. Hope she is better soon :)

Sounds like it's probably softies. Mine gets quiet and hunched standing alone behind bushes when she has one coming.

It may help to do a general health check. Feel crop, does she feel light, has she lost weight, any signs of red mite or lice and signs of mucky bottom?

Mine get squity smelly poos from eating worms, slugs etc.,

Thanks for the replies.

Rofl was absolutely fine yesterday morning - was running around and eating everyting in sight without a care in the world! We had one egg yesterday which was normal. BUT - yesterday evening our Pepperpot Lmao was found all hunched up underneath the table. We picked her up and she didn't struggle (she normally doesn't like being picked up) and when we tried to hand feed her a dried mealworm (her absolute favourite thing in the whole world), her beak remained closed and she just blinked at us.

She took herself into the Eglu around 7pm - the other two put themselves to bed much later as usual.

I thought the worst this morning when I saw Rofl and Pmsl in the run - but no Lmao. OH went to check the Eglu for Lmao around 6am and when he took the eggport door off she was in the nesting box - she emitted a loud screech which he said could only be chicken speak for ""Ooops, word censored!" off! I'm trying to lay a flipping egg!"

So relief for her not being dead but when I left for work just before 9am - she was still in the nesting box - so I'm still worried about her.

I'll pop home at lunchtime to see how she is.

These bloomin birds!!

Re - healthcheck - we checked them all last night - crops fine, combs/wattles red and fine, vents all clear. Rofl had a bit of poop on her feathers but that was gone this morning.

Well I popped home at lunchtime - all three girls are fine. One egg in the nesting box, perfectly formed and medium in size. I'm glad all is well but I'm a bit baffled.

I'm going to put this down to an overdose of slugs :!:

Phew
