North east caravan sites

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I inherited a little tourer caravan a few years ago and it's been in storage ever since (I inherited it from my mum and had so many memories in it I couldn't deal with it at all). I think I'm about ready to face it now, and I'd love to put it on a site close enough to home (Durham) to go for weekends with the kids whenever we fancy it.

Do any of you lot know of a site reasonably close, ie Yorkshire, Cumbria, County Durham etc etc where we can have the van permanently on site and then have it stored there over winter? It's fairly old so needs to be somewhere with no age limit, and not too expensive - some of the super dooper ones are several thousands a year! I'd rather stay away from the Seahouses area because it was near there with my mum and I still just miss her a bit too much to enjoy that yet (she died 4 years ago but I'm not quite there yet).

Thanks :D

I love that website - I spend hours on it before deciding where to go camping. The reviews are so helpful - you really get a good feel for where you are going - or where you should stay away from!

Not had a bad trip - yet!

Hi, we have our caravan on a seasonal pitch at Otterington park near Thirsk and would certainly recommend it as a peaceful site very handy for lots of places to visit, and only about an hour from Durham. I know there is a waiting list for seasonal pitches but we used to be there on a store and site basis which works quite well and gives you chance to try the site out without committing to a whole year.

Yeah I have but because I don't have a particular area that's a problem, then I can't tell it I need a season pitch, that I need kids allowed (it's bringing up a fair few adult only ones), and I need winter storage - and that's pretty much all we need!! It's going to take hours and hours to go through them all one by one! Will if I have to though I really want to get the van out of storage and full of life again, just hoping someone might have a tip off :) I'm still finding it all a bit hard so the easier the route the better :anxious:

Thanks I've registered, just waiting to be allowed to post now (not sure how long I have to wait for so I'll just keep trying!).

An Omlet caravan meet would be great - but I don't know if our little old tin can will be up to touring properly, I've neglected it so much  Will have a good look round it when I can get up the bottle and see what needs doing. Thanks for your help, it's the last thing I'm being pathetic about, I sold the house, I've gone through the clothes and bits and pieces, but for some reason the van is proving really difficult :( Just need to get it set up somewhere and get the kids in it and I'm positive that'll blow all the cobwebs away and give it a new feeling, my mum died when I was pregnant with my eldest daughter so it feels like two really separate lives!
