fluffyknickers
Right where to start! As you may now Nugget the was broody (i think thats what it was all the signs there) well this morning she is out of the nest and walking round. Yesterday for first time since she began laying Nugget didnt lay (assume it was her as only got two eggs). This morning I went to check the nest box and there was one egg perfectly normal and then it looked wet in there. I touched it and it was slimy like the white of an egg. There was no shell in the box or anything else. So I assume she has laid an egg without a shell - is this OK? What do I need to do? Thanks Michelle
ClaireG
Sounds like it could well have been a softie. It sometimes takes a while for them to get into the swing of things properly when they first start laying. You could try giving a calcium suppliment if you get repeated softies. If Nugget is otherwise herself then i'd try not to worry.
peggotty
One of my girls (Coco) will sometimes eat her own eggs if she is left undisturbed by me or the other girls. She will eat every s"Ooops, word censored!", including all the shell, so that all is left is a damp, sticky patch in the middle of the nest box - oh and sometimes a few flicks of egg yolk on the walls for decoration! Maybe this is another possibility?
