Old Speckled Hen
The entire back of my wooden coop hinges down so when my four have laid I change the newspaper lining it, remove the perch and leave it open till they go to bed. That way the sunlight gets to the inside. I spray with Poultry Shield once a month and touch wood haven't had any problems ..... yet Chooks get a dose of EPRINEX (not licenced in the UK for use in poultry) every three months or so. chickenanne
DA: I have the same coop as you! It's great, I've had mine 2 years no red mite (or other) issues at all.

I had a cube ordered but the delivery time was two months and I just couldn't wait. The chooks were living in an arc and needed more space. I've attached a second nesting box where the heart shaped window was as they all used to pile into the nest box at night and squabble. Still want a though. I need to do the same thing with my wood house. Have you got any plans or photos of it please ?
Old Speckled Hen
Hi tidygirlsuk It's made of thick ply just screwed onto the coop. Sealed with flexible mastic and painted with sealant paint to make it waterproof. It's a bit Heath Robinson but it does work. Just a rough plan not to scale Would have been better, but more fiddly, to hinge the top but it's easy to clean from the inside. Hope this helps.
