Clover in the Lawn-Bad for Chickens?

Recommended Posts

Our 2 chickens arrived on Thursday and the (cube green) is on the lawn. We have a lot of patches of white clover in the lawn and they soon polished off all that was inside their run.

We moved the cube this morning and there's little clover in there now, but my son's been feeding them both the flower heads and the leaves, which they love.

I've just been looking at the list of poisonous plants on the forum and found that clover is on there. I know it says that most chickens will avoid what is harmful to them, but if clover is something they shouldn't, then my two haven't got any sense!

Is this something I should be concerned about?

Should we avoid the clover areas of the lawn?

If clover is harmful, is this going to be a big problem once we let them free-range in the garden?

Advice please!

Thank you,

Sam
