Prolapsed vent - am I getting it right?

Due to holiday and the new cats coming later this month (hoorah!! ) we felt we couldn't introduce a new hen till all's settled down. However, our poultry supplier's current stock will have gone by the time we're ready & we want to stay with them and try a coral (thanks folks for the help with our decision).

 

As a result we have 2 questions we'd like help with please :

 

1. The next stock is available at end September. Will we encounter greater problems in introducing a 3rd hen then due to the time gap for the existing 2 hens?

 

2. Are hens that are reared leter in the season less robust than early season?

When you say 'ready' I am guessing you mean its grown and is POL? (like your other girls were)

 

In that case one purchased in September will have been hatched in March which is a good time, ones ready now will have been winter hatches.

 

I don't think it will make a great deal of difference which you go for, your hens are established so adding one now or in a few months time will probably be the same amount of work

 

Bear in mind that anyone looking after your hens will have to deal with two sets of feed and drink if you buy a new one now as it will have to be homed separately but within sight of the ohere until they are all used to each other so it will be extra work for your hen-sitter

Absolutely! That's why the delay. We can't do anything now because of impending holiday and the current stock will be gone by the time we're back.
