Sam Palmer Posted June 20, 2009 Share Posted June 20, 2009 We've only had our chickens for 9 days and the Omlet man said they probably wouldn't start laying until the end of the month, but Sparkle started behaving oddly yesterday morning. She kept going in and out of the Cube and into the nest box (her comb and wattles are still fairly pink, in fact, Honey's are redder) and was very vocal. So I put some shredded paper in the nest box and this morning she did the same, only stayed in there and pulled all the paper around herself like a nest. When we came home this afternoon, there was her first egg! It's 37g. What a lovely surprise. I was shouting down the garden, 'we've got our first egg!'. We're looking forward to the next one now!
