siamang2
My chickens seem to be very sad. They sit by the gate of their run for long periods of the day. They have a garden approx 7m x 12m to play in, plus their eglu. they have shelter, sun, food and water. the only thing they don't have anymore is grass because they have eaten it all! Occassionally I let them out into the rest of the garden, but only when I'm around as they tend to disappear down the road or into the school field. Is there anything I can do to cheer them up? Steph101
Try hanging a cabbage up for them to peck at. Ours love this, and swing it to and fro like a punch bag.
Ain't Nobody Here
My chickens used to spend most of their time at the door end of the run too . I think they're just nosey and want to see what's going on at the end the treats appear at . A cabbage is a good idea, you can also try corn on the cob, apples or anything you can get to hang up . Have they got perches in the run? You can feed a stick through the run bars to give them something to perch on. You'd probably find if you left a video running, they'd be quite happy when you're not around .
Redwing
Don't forget the days are long at the moment so once they have had their fill to eat there is a lot of the day left! All of mine spend a lot of time chilling out
