Lime mix for wormery

Recommended Posts

Hoping that someone can help.

I've had a wormery for a couple of years now and wouldn't be without it.

I need to re-stock on lime mix and don't want to pay some of the extortionate P&P from online outlets.

Does anyone know where I can pick some up over the counter in north London or Herts?

Better still, how would one go about making a lime mix?

I don't have a wormery but my friend mentioned that they need a bit of lime, so I gave her some of the garden lime that I use in the chicken-run, and she just added a sprinkling of this to her wormery.

What is it mixed with? :? Could you just add garden lime? Her worms are still alive and wriggling, as far as I know!

Many thanks.

I had read on another forum NOT to use garden lime as it was too strong and would burn the worms. :?

As my (cube lilac) is arriving in less than a week, I will soon hopefully have a plentiful supply of egg-shells. Sorry to be dim, but how long and at what temperature do you bake the shells?

Bokashi bran is on order as well. :)

Apparently, a sprinkling of DE is good for controlling any flies in the wormery too.

Funny how this all seems to inter-connect...
