Torrin Posted June 25, 2009 Share Posted June 25, 2009 The third of my hens has just started to lay (hooray) but has laid her 2 eggs so far in the cube run. Maybe I have been spoilt because the first 2 to start laying have used the nest box every time. Apart from the fact the kids love taking off the hatch to check the box, it's a pain having to climb in and get it and I'm worried they'll break it before I get there. ubereglu Posted June 25, 2009 Share Posted June 25, 2009 Try putting a fake egg in the cube nestbox-eg a golf ball or a rubber/porcelain egg. Then she'll get the hint. It may just be that she doesn't know when she's going to lay and they take her by surprise, (My chicken, Spice, did this when she was coming into lay).
