Ros
Hi I had a flash of inspiration the other day when tempted to buy a chicken treat that was made mostly of nuts, fruit molasses etc.......as we are on an economy drive i decided to make my own. I bought very dark molasses brown sugar (supermarket own brand), used half a mug of fruity, nutty museli, some out of date dessicated coconut (from the land at the back of the pantry) and a dessert spoonful of margarine. Melted fat and about two thirds of a mug of sugar, til it turned gloopy, then stirred in other stuff ( also added some crushed calcium tablet to help my shelless egg layer ). I had prepared a clean big yogurt pot by pulling some string through a hole in the bottom, and holding the pot upside down I pressed the thick mixture into it, keeping th string in the centre. It all set in less than an hour, rock hard. Tapped it out and now had a big chunky chook treat on a string to tie in the run!!! The hens have gone crazy for it..........and i reckon it cost about 20% what it would have done to buy it!! _________________ The mad flapper Chooks arrived 15/06/08 (bluebelle) 1st- brownegg! 5/07/08 (light sussex)1st- egg! 5/07/08 R.I.P. 27.6.09 (speckledy) (copper maran) arrived 16/10/
