Hello

 

You have all been helpful when I asked about worming my girls but someone mentioned about putting the worming powder in a grape, how do you work out how much powered and is there a risk of over dosing them?

 

The reason I ask is that the last 2 days I have mixed the powder with their pellets as per the packet but one of my girls is bottom of the pecking order isn't eating much and hasn't touched the pellets so I am wondering if she is even getting any powder at all. I think she is slow and moping because she has worms so I want to make sure she gets some medicine.

 

Any advice?

I use the grape method (only practical for 3 or fewer chickens, I reckon!)

 

I cut a few grapes in half then dip the tip of a sharp kitchen knife into the Flubenvet powder. Put the tip of the knife into the middle of the grape and wipe the powder off into the juicy bit.

 

Have a few undosed half grapes at the ready to distract hens who might pinch a double portion .

 

You can't really overdose them (a double dose is actually used to treat gapeworm).

They will eat according to their weight and age and get the right dose that way.

 

I would separate her for a couple of hours and let hr have her own dish of pellets.

I have been having some fun and games! I ended up shaking the powder over some raisins which I had added a little oil too and then feeding them a few raisin each. It started well but the one I am worried about ate one raisin then wondered off. I will try her again later.

 

I was so worried that I might make them ill if I gave them too much.
