Bald tummy but still laying - broody?

Recommended Posts

Hello

Lightning, our pepperpot, has a bit of a bald tummy, she is also spending more time than usual in the next box but she is laying every day.......is she broody? i have beamed a torch into the eglu at night to see if i can spot any red mite but not seen anything although we do have a (red eglu) not sure if that makes it harder to spot the blighters? The bald tummy is worrying me a little but she does seem to be eating and moseying around the garden when i take her out of the nest box.........

There was a subject a little while ago about bald tummies - not sure where, but the consensus was that it was the heat.

Our Mrs P is the same way at the moment bless her. And with all those feathers in this heat I am not surprised they lose a few to try and keep cool!

My Pepperpoy also has a bald tummy.

And an increasingly scrawny neck.

And has absolutely no featers left on her botton and the bit of her back near the tail.

The latter is (I think) die to pecking. I'm getting some bumper-bits for the other chickens.

But the bald tummy has only just appeared in the last week.

Could it be moulting???

hi i recently had this with my girl daniel and the feedback i got from most people was she was broody and she was still laying daily ,although she was making a low grunting sound every now and then for no reason. She is now back to her normal self and you would never know now. hopefully your girl will come out of it soon :D
