my chooks dont appear to be drinking much...

Recommended Posts

Not sure why as they are scoffing more pellets than usual...... they have been wormed recently too....

They have greens/melon everyday, and dont free range

Is there anything else I should do? I am worried about the heat, but they seem fine in themselves...

thanks

I've been adding water to some pellets to make a mush and get more water in. Stupid things think it's a treat. I also give them water in a different bowl and curiosity makes them drink. Otherwise I'm not sure.

Have they shown signs of beeing too hot. If mine are are too hot they have their beaks open and hold their wings out.

I think as long as the water's available, and they're not looking ill, I wouldn't worry too much - they will regulate their intake according to what they need. If they're getting mash with water, or any 'watery' treats like cucumber, then they probably don't need so much. Also if they're free-ranging at all they may be drinking from somewhere else, or eating food with lots of moisture in.

I'm really particular about making sure the Superglug is always filled up. Every evening as soon as I open the door to let mine free-range, they head for a nearby plant saucer which usually has water in, and start drinking it.

Maybe you should provide some green, scummy water - that's what mine seem to favour!
