bumper bits and eating.

Recommended Posts

hi.

just fitted a bumper bit to one of my chooks - lots of feather pulling and bullying.

Fitted it last night -she got grumpy and went straight to bed.

Today, she doesn;t seem to bothered by the actual bit, but I am worried taht she can't eat.

The bit is in her nose, and then has a bite like a hose would wear to stop her closing her mouth properly - but she can't pick up corn - despite her best efforts, an don the odd occassion she does, she can't actually get it in her mouth.

Should I worry? Is this normal?

??

It may take her a couple of days to get the hang of it. They can struggle with little bits of food like dried corn. Mine are bitted and I put their treats in a bowl. The depth of food helps them to get a beak full.

Don't back down. Think how awful the pecking was.

we fitted 6 to our chooks and one got very thin, we took her to the vets and they said the bit was too big for her beak so we were advised to remove it.

Has helped and the week it was in has prevented her from pecking now, so taught her a lesson.

Hi Loopy,

I too fitted a bumper bit last night with the same results :( Hopefully things will sort themselves out - it's hard to watch a chook looking sorry for herself and not able to join in the treats, even if she is a bit of a bully !!
