Another weedkiller query

Recommended Posts

My neighbours hate gardening and are about to raze everything to the ground then douse it in weedkiller to kill it. They've had a hop bine and bindweed problem for a while and as we cut back the growth from it in our garden it's collapsed in a heap in theirs.

If they go weedkiller crazy, what do you think the chances are of it leeching into our garden?

We are terraced, and have bog-standard wooden fencing between the two gardens. It's not buried, it just goes down to the ground between the two gardens.

Do you think there is any chook risk if they go weedkiller crazy?

I'm not sure how far it leaches if at all, I do know that the normal stuff is not as strong as the Sodium Chlorate (?) stuff which is really nasty and is active in the ground for six months again I don't know how far that leaches...sorry :( If they regularly go crazy with weedkiller its unlikely to be the nasty stuff though

There is only one way to kill bindweed, as its roots go down 30 feet, and that is to paint the leaves with glyphosate. Tell your neighbours they are wasting their time if they plan to cut it down and douse it.

If you have got rid of the bindweed above ground in your garden, I can't see there would be a problem, however, even if they do use a lot of weedkiller their side.

There is no organic way of getting rid of bindweed, unfortunately.
