nick48
Hi I am a new to this site but have read with interest various topics on the eglus and other bits for advice. We have 5 chickens one bantam and a batam cockeral (rockstar). last week after a massive attack of red mite in our hen house we bought a cube which we are delighted with. The question i have if anyone can help is the chickens are comfortable using the grub but not so with the glug has anyone else encountered this problem and can point me in the right direction many thanks Nick
Ain't Nobody Here
Welcome to the forum, Nick and congratulations on the new cube . I don't have the superglug but I have heard that you have to teach them how to use it - tapping the "teats" with a stick shows them where the water comes from. (I think some of them never get the hang of it though .)
Falkor
Do you mean the superglug that came with the cube? Some of my girls use the superglug and some point blank refuse.... The first few days they had it they completely ignored it so I spent a couple of hours flicking the nipples with my finger (ooooerrr) to make water come out to give them the idea. They now have a normal glug, a superglug and a traditional mushroom drinker......they still prefer the mucky water in the plant pot saucers though Glad you like your cube......they are great aren`t they! Oi....ANH you beat me to it again!!!
Space Chick
Two of my girls use the super glug in the traditional fashion, Rose however jumps on the top and sticks her head in Although they will always favour a muddy puddle, which freaks me out, its a wonder they haven't developed some hideous dirty water disease
nick48
many thanks, yes really great to have the cube we sooo love it and the girls and boy are mastering the ladder which is v funny but they getting hang of it. we nearly got the cube last year when we first had chickens but went for a wooden (cheaper) one instead and with the red mite we had have had to burn it ! Suppose it proves what looks cheaper is not always so in the long run thanks again will keep experimentig with glug and try to wean them off mushroom that they,re used too .
