rufusrooster
i originally put straw in there nest box but soon realised how messy it is as it gets dragged out into the run and drops all over the place when you get it out the bag, ive replaced it with easibed and dumped the starw in my compost bin. i then realised i have sprinkled Diatom in the bedding and in the poo tray, can i still dispose of the bedding, poo and Diatom in the compost bin ? wont the diatom kill any little beasties that are residing in the compost bin ? thanks. Ain't Nobody Here
I'm pretty certain you can. I seem to remember someone contacting the manufacturers and they confirmed that it is perfectly safe (and actually beneficial, if I remember rightly). (I hope I've remembered that right and it's not some other product entirely .) I certainly chuck my hens' bedding (along with diatom) straight into my compost bin . EDIT: I just found this link which confirms it (near the bottom of the page) .
The Dogmother
I use Diatom in the housing and it all goes on the compost, which still works fine. You'll be OK Straw is nasty stuff in chook housing it gets all damp and smelly
