Coxoid

Recommended Posts

Hello All

Hope you're all healthy & happy. Enjoying the sunshine days.

I've been reading with much interest the posts on soft yellowy poo as one of mine seems to have regular yellow poos nowadays with lumpy bits in them sometimes and when I hose them away they do seem to have such a foul stench. They were wormed about 5 weeks ago. So I've bought some Coxoid just to be on the safe side. Now the question is do I try to feed it to the only chicken I think has the yellowy poo or do I put it in their water to treat all of the flock, to be sure any infection is stopped from developing in any of the others.

How much goes into the water & for how how many days are they treated with Coxoid?

I've read its for Pigeons so unsure of the dosage...but as many of you recommend it for chickens I trust you guys as opposed to the labelling :)

Oh & do we withdraw from eating the eggs when the chickens are on Coxoid? If so for how long ?

Many Many Thanks

I used this in the case of a persistently dirty bottomed chook and I was not sure what to try next, it solved the problem

I treated all my hens just to be safe

It goes in the drinking water, I used 15ml to 2 lires of water

the dose time is 7 days

I'm not sure of egg withdrawl but would suggest that it would be prudent to withdraw for the time of treatment plus as much as an extra week on top but thats really your decision

Thank you so much Redwing,

My hubby hates the thought of wasting such delicious eggs but I think its wise.

Anyone have any facts re: what would happen if he ate them? As it wouldn't surprise me if he sneaked a few in the pan before I chuck them in the bin!!

Many Thanks

Thankyou Ms dont have any aliens growing out of tummy :D:lol:

I won't share your good fortune with my hubby but I do wonder how much of any anti biotic is actually traced within an egg, do you know if any? or does anyone know how much. The amounts may vary too .. hmm wonder if free range eggs you can buy from the supermarket, wonder if any of those chicks are treated for different ailments with any anti biotic wormer etc & if their eggs are still used - I mean on masse must be difficult to treat just a few or to know which eggs - wonder what they do.!! There's probably a billion and one health & safety rules, regulations & clauses' :)

Many thanks

there is also something called Bracyaspia that causes similar yellow foamy poos in the caecal poos only, you may want to send a sample to Retfords fotr treatment with the appropriate antibiotic (it does not respnd to the usually prescribed Baytril) or you might like to try a natural alternative an oregano product orego stim or ropiadar!(think other one is, there are 3 all tested!)

:vom: Thank you for that, these foamy yellow poos arent good for the wimps .. like me!!

I shall decide which is best & treat. Like the sound of the natural just wonder if its as effective for the chickens or better for them. Hmmm.

Does anyone else eat the eggs when treating with Coxoid?

Ok so get ac;aen container not huge... put some poo in there... seal it safely an send it to them...

ring the, let them know it is coming or call 1st to check they CAN get results for you. (pretty sure they can)

You put a letter in with it, with symptoms traetments tried etc. Your adreess phone number etc.

Send it to be signed for next day delivery (not too pricey but worth it IMO. :)

" days later you should get an answer and meds will be posted!!!

Easy...

Brilliant...

IF you don;t hear, ring them...
