Allotmenteer resources

Recommended Posts

Allotment holders - and those with big gardens - sometimes need things in much larger quantities than others......

I thought I'd start a list of things which might be useful - please add your own ideas and any links to the allotment forums.......

I have 2 tips....

If you need to cover a large area with black polythene then look at online agricultural sites - what you need is called Silage Sheets. You can buy varying sizes - we bought one which is 11m x 15m - it means you can cover ground without gaps.

You can also buy larger sizes of Enviromesh if you look around - I bought mine through an Ebay seller

You can offen collect large cardboard boxes from refuse sites and supermarkets - ideal for using as weed suppressant, just cover with grass clippings or chippings -local hotels will often let you collect their clippings. It all rots down but by then all but the most persistant weeds will have given up and you will have improved your soil too. :D

I acquire them off the farm supplies delivery man and ask for the pallet which our items were on.....and then follow it up with telling him that if he 'shifts that bag of feed' I could have the other pallet as well :D - OH used to hide but I've trained him to ask as well now
