effingpot
I've read all the articles I can find on feather loss and pecking and mites and all that. Two of my six birds have missing feathers at the back end to one side or the other and it looks sore. I've had a few mites which I treat each week by cleaning with Jeyes fluid and using powder in the nooks and crannies and on birds and in dust baths We see no pecking at all and we can see the birds from the house quite easily I have treated for worms There seems to be no distress and we get a full 6 eggs per day Here is one of the affected birds And here is the other Any suggestions? Thanks Mike
Egluntyne
5 of my girls are exactly the same. I have even resorted to putting bumperbits on them as I decided that there must be a secret feather pecker among them. I have convinced myself that they have depluming mite and are damaging themselves in an effort to get rid of the irritation. Today I have bathed the affected 5 in a mild shampoo with a tsp of Flowers of Sulphur **Not licensed for use on poultry in UK added. I dunked them well and made sure that every nook and cranny was treated. They seemed to quite enjoy it. I shall repeat this in about 10 days. There was a thread about this recently. Jess100
Hi Effingpot. My hen Ethel has the same as this and I took her to the vet. THe vet said that it might be a parasite so gave her some Frontline and also said to watch for bullying. She is bottom of the pecking order but I don't think she is being bullied. She also suggested sun burn although mine are kept in the shade mostly. I then spoke to Tracey from the BHWT and she said some just choose not to grow back some feathers for ages and ages. I'm keeping an eye on her but you're not alone! Jess (not far from you - in Fleet)
