andyglen
I had two hens that were well settled and laying every day, I have introduced two new POL chickens and they seem happy and are not attacking each other and seemed to have settled well. I noticed that the eggs from the older ones started getting paler and now seemed to have stopped laying altogether. I read up about why eggs get paler and it seems it can be down to hot weather and or stress. As it was the very hot weather lately I put it down to that but it is unlikely to be that now. The four chickens have a very large area to free range so are not couped up together all the time and seem very happy. Has anyone else experienced something like this and if so how long did it take to start laying again. Thanks for any help received.
Ain't Nobody Here
Can't really help but I'm hoping the opposite might be true . I plan to introduce 2 new girls to my 3 who have all stopped laying (they are just 2 years old).
Redwing
Laying in my lot went haywire after I introduced a new chook, it was fine when they were separate but when I put them together after a couple of weeks it went egg-silent for days then just one or two a day a couple of months on we are back to normal so yes 'change' is a factor, hens arent good with change I think the heat can have an effect too though, they need a lot of water in their bodies to lay an egg So not really much help am I? andyglen
Thanks for the responses, hopefully they will be back to egg laying normality soon and hopefully the new ones will be joining in. I shall get a T Shirt Printed. "Chickens don't like change"
andyglen
Just to add a late update for anyone reading this post and has a similar issue. The two older chickens started laying again soon after and after going on holiday for a week (me not the chickens) I arrived back home to the first batch of four eggs in one day. Lots of Yorkshire puddings since. Uhmmmm!!
