Porkypie
I have already put a post about my 21week Bluebell laying softies. I've been putting it down to her being young and getting into the swing of things. However, I'm starting to worry bcos it seems to be getting worse, not better She was laying small normal eggs mainly with the odd softie but now only softies for the past week or so. I have found the remains of a soft egg 'shell' the run the past two days that they have all joined in eating (yellow yolk encrusted on their faces gave the game away). She is a newbie and I fully integrated her with the others two weeks ago so I thought that maybe that change has contributed to making the softie situation worse I use VermX as a parasite prevention measure. She seems active and bright and no other signs apart from softies but could this be a sign of worms? I don't have any Flubevet but shoud I order some and treat her as a precaution? chelsea
I wouldn't have thought the softies have any connection to worms although if you have not wormed them recently it would not harm to give them a course of Flubenvet. A lot of forum members prefer flubenvet to verm-x. A hen with worms can tend to look miserable, be hunched, generally not laying at all and have funny poos. (you may see tiny worms in their poo ) The softies could be just a blip, cut down on any treat giving and if you allow your girls to free range maybe leave them in their run with the food a bit longer so they can fill up on their nutritious pellets.
