Chickens on the train?

Recommended Posts

I just phoned Scotrail. The girl seemed a bit vague but said that as cats are allowed in a carrier she didn't see why chickens wouldn't be, provided I accepted complete responsibility for them. Adds a futher possibility to the "how to get my new chickens to Scotland" conundrum. I've been reading about the probs folks have been having with couriers. I phoned the DTB today to see if they had a delivery date for me and they said "No - the couriers are in europe just now" which put the wind up me a wee bit I must say. Not quite ready ready for the chooks yet but it won't be long!

could get very smelly in a enclosed space our chooks started pooing on the journey back in the car very smelly indeed! probaly would not go down well with other passengers so best avoid the rush hour!

:lol::lol: agreed!

Perhaps an enclosed cardboard cat carrier rather than a wire fronted one would be a good idea, less smell, less noise (as it will be so dar then hens should go in to 'roost mode' no children poking their fingers through the door at the chooks :lol:

I have found that a small layer of aubiose covered with a deep bed of straw in the box really cuts down on the smells rather than newspaper, aubiose or shavings alone as the poo sinks down between the strands of the straw on to the absobent bedding underneath

Also try ciitronella oil on a duster/kitchen roll tied to the top inside the box

Another reason to avoid the rush hour would be so that you could have the box with you rather than having to leave it in the lugggage racks
