Lib
Hi everyone I was just wondering if anyone elses bunny has every made a clicking sort of sound when she/he hops around? It sounds like poor George needs a hip op! Or some WD40 or Cod Liver Oil!! She can hop around ok and doesn't appear to be in any discomfort. She can sprawl out fine with her legs stretched out behind her and get up with no problem. Only problem she seems to have is when she tries to scratch behind her ear with her right leg - she just falls over. We're going to visit the vets tomorrow but I was just wondering if anyone else has seen this before? As far as I'm aware she's not hurt herself anywhere as she still allows me to stroke her behind ok.
FruitandNutCake
I have never come across this in over 20 years of keeping rabbits, but maybe someone else has. Is your rabbit young or old? Hopefully the vet will have an answer for you - hope all goes well tomorrow. Please let us know what the vet says.
Lib
Thanks for your reply Michelle. George will be 4 yrs old in December. She's quite a big girl (weighs around 4.5kg but she is a large breed!). Out of my 2 bunnies, she's always been the jumper and more active. She loves running around the garden like a crazed idiot! Just hope she'll be able to run around again very soon........ I'll let you know how she gets on tomorrow. Regards Liz
Lib
Hi The vet seems to think that George has the onset of arthritis in her right foot (due to an old war wound when her sister lacerated her foot - and that was after the spaying too!). Since she is still using her foot ok, the vet is not keen to do an xray at the moment since she'll need to be knocked out. Plus I don't want to put her through that trauma until it's absolutely necessary. Lol - she had an anti inflamatory injection last night and after Sunday she'll be having 0.5ml of cold liver oil poured over her tablets every morning!!!!!! If that upsets her tummy, then we'll need to try her on sunflower oil (but that's not as effective). Fingers crossed it works. Never a dull moment being a bunny mummy!! FruitandNutCake
hopefully the anti-inflammatory will do the trick. My partner is clicky all over - doesn't stop him playing football twice a week! He doesn't like to admit he is getting on a bit! I guess all the time George doesn't show any signs of pain, it is a good sign. The other possibility might me a loose ligament ( I had one in my jaw - and didn't hurt but made a loud click when eating!) It disappeared over time. Maybe rabbits can have the same thing. Best to see how she goes.
