funky-chicken
As mentioned in a previous post one of our hens has sour crop. The vet gave us 'dog ear drops' for her as they are anti fungal. She needs to be given five drops twice a day. Her crop is quite large today and she's doing the strange head weaving movement again I wondered if there is anything I can do to either empty her crop or help in any way? I read that you can tip them gently to make them sick but that she might choke so I'm wary of doing this. Any advice would be very gratefully received. Plum
Hello, I wonder if this article would help you http://www.browneggblueegg.com/Article/ImpactedCrop_OldWay.html

funky-chicken
Definately don't think I will try and empty it myself I can see why some use maggots to clear all the rubbish that's accumulated. I'm hoping our usual avian vet is back from his holidays on Monday. Jan.x
funky-chicken
She is now just standing in the run with her crop still full and I can't think what to do but hope that she can hold on until tomorrow when we can get her back to an avian vet. Her crop will have to be emptied somehow but I'm at my wits end to know how to help her until tomorrow Jan.
Plum
I'm sorry, poor little chick. Are you managing to get the drops into her and drinks. Another medicine that treats fungus is Daktarin oral I've understand you can buy over the counter now, if you can find somewhere open on a sunday. It contains Miconazole but check your drops aren't amphotericin because they stop each other working. You could put probiotic yogurt in syringe and trickle it into her mouth. It's thought to correct the balance of things in the gut. Hope she makes it until tomorrow when you can get her to a vet Jan.
funky-chicken
Thank you for your reply Plum, it's so re-assuring as I felt so helpless. We've since bought her inside onto newspaper and straw, she's in the hall so is going to be warmer now. At least she's passing watery motions so the fluid is clearing a little. I've given her cider vinegar in water too. I will check our drops and see what they contain and thank you for the advice about Daktarin, hubby is going to see if he can find somewhere open. I'm just praying now that she'll be OK until the morning too. Jan.x

northstarred
Hi Teee I read that Daktarin about pea sized 2 or 3 times a day is enough. I fed mine her dosage just on the top of a bit of apple sauce - she wolfed it so quick she had no time to notice there was medicine in it Keep up with the yoghurt too that does seem to help and good luck

Still not gone though so persevering and if she starts going off again (currently running and jumping around but still with big crop) then trip to vet in order I think. sandyhas3chucks
someones vet said only grains not pellets as pellests turn to mush. Other advice is stewed apples only, and probiotic yoghurt. But would guess if she is eating as normal then she isn't feeling poorly.. mine got real sick! Only a big guess mind, hard to say when you can't see them. ACV in the water too, good luck
