I like the idea of putting an edging around the woodchip/bedding in the centre of the run. Log roll sounds good, but the green plastic roll edging is really cheap to use- do you think that would do the job as well? A membrane liner is a good idea too!

We think the log roll in the centre serves two purposes. 1.) it allows you a maintenance/access area and 2.) it allows a deep litter for the girls.

The log roll is more sturdy than plastic lawn edging and we went for the tallest available. It was on offer in Focus DIY (buy 2 get one free, I think!). OH screwed battens to the long length to aid support and then it was staked into the ground. The membrane was then stapled to the inside edge of the log roll. So far so good :D

We are currently consdering the plastic lawn edging around the inside of the run - just to help prevent the chippings being kicked out. Those hens are so "wasteful!)

Will take some pix and post them here - just as soon as it stops raining :(

Sshh, don't tell everyone - I have just seen the sunshine :D ...

Kind rgds,

Pat & Steve

Hey Jules...sorry to butt in but just thought I would mention that i tried using the plastic roll edging from B&Q (corrugated stuff) and it lasted about five mins! Lumping great Orps trouncing in and out and over it every two mins to get to the "good aubiose stuff" made it crack and tear :?

I have seen B&G do sell ridgid plastic edging...do you mean that? As i recall it wasn`t cheap mind!

This was dirt cheap stuff in Wilkinsons, perhaps better used to keep bedding in the run when attached to the run sides?

lol! I tried that too....they still managed to tear it  but that may have been because it was slightly taller than the wood it was being attached to

That's the one i use Jules - around the outside of the cube run. I fixed it with cable ties and it does a brilliant job at keeping the Aubiose in the run.

oh yes...I use it cable tied to the eglu run and it is ace for that job!

just not in my WIR :(
