xScrunchee
Poor old Rose. She is definitely showing signs of old age lately. More tired, not so excitable etc. She nods off in the dustbath from time to time too and looks quite surprised if one of the othes wakes her. She has been wormed and treated with ivermectin and is not acting ill-just worn out, bless her. She has only missed a few days of laying in 2 and 1/2 years so I think she has worn herself out too early Anyway-she laid a very interesting egg this morning Here Although I should have taken a pic of her egg last week-looked like corragated cardboard. chickencam
The laying hybrids only seem to lay well for about 18months then they seem to wind down, can't blame them really, I wouldn't like to lay an egg every day. We have just got 5 more pullets to take over from the older girls as they wind down. One of my original Pepperpots is hardly laying at all at the moment and the other one is laying about 4 eggs a week. My best layer is my Light Sussex she is still laying about 5 lovely eggs a week, this level of laying seems so much kinder on their bodies. Fur 'n' Feathers
Our Kilo's been laying similar recently. We reintroduced limestone flour and added some poultry spice as she was having a slight moult. Seemed to do the trick for a month or so but the last 2 days the thin/imperfect shells have reappeared. Bought some Lifeguard today, which is recommended for ex-batts (she's not) to see if it does the trick. It is supposed to enhabce egg quality. xScrunchee
Ooo, let me know how the Lifeguard goes. Might be worth getting some for Rose. I'm not really too fussed about the eggs though to be honest, just so long as she is happy We haven't eaten Roses eggs for about a year because they are pretty gross!! The whites won't set no matter how long you cook them for and now the yolks have gone really weird, like slightly cooked looking even though they are raw

Certainly will post something - whatever the result. Regarding Rose's eggs......Yummy .....not However, on a serious note again, we wonder what do others think this may be due to:?:
