Hi All

 

A friend of mine has a hen that is laying really small eggs, any idea as to what the matter with her is??

My martha lays really tiny eggs too and has for about a month and a half.

Shes the chubbiest hen so i think that might be the issue.

More excercise for her methinks.

They lay small eggs at the beginning of their laying life, they then usually get a bit larger towards the end but I have a Pepperpot who is 2.5 years old and she lays quite small eggs these days and only about 1 or 2 a week I think she is just widing down to retirement.

I have been chicken sitting for a neighbour. She has approx half a dozen bantams c/w cockerel and small duck.

 

Ordinarily, she allows them to free range during the day. However, since I am only "visiting" twice a day, I haven't let them out.

 

On average, I collect only one or two bantam sized eggs daily. Yesterday I collected an egg that was no bigger than a quails egg!

 

Is this "normal"?

It was smaller than my thumb print - a lil' larger than a malteser (should've measured it!).

 

I broke it into the frying pan yesterday and the whole thing was no bigger than a ten pence piece

 

Amazing! any ideas?

1:-could it be the first egg

2:- are they on layers feed

mine have been laying for 2 weeks the smallest was 28g and the biggest 53 but most are around 35-40g
