2009 Omlet cube and run for sale

Hi

 

Have just received my cider vinegar from omlet and some diatom powder. As I am new to this, could someone let me know how much cider vinegar sould be added to their water. I assume you put it in every time you change their water? Also, i was going to put the diatom in a dust bath for the chooks, but do I need to dust them?

You only need a dash in the water, no need to be scientific. You can't use it in galvanised drinkers though.

 

Use the Diatom in their dustbath, in the housing and to dust the birds. Take care not to breathe it though as the dust is very fine.

Oh no - I've got it in glavanised drinkers. I'm now running out to rinse them out! Is it a problem?

Found this quote for you (courtesy of Egluntine!):

 

ACV is ok in a stainless steel drinker, it is the galvanised ones that should be avoided as the acid causes pitting.

 

And from Spuddy:

 

Stainless Steel has no problem at all with acids (vinegar is basically a very dilute Acetic Acid), Egluntine is right that galvanised ones WILL have a problem with acid.

Salt is the substance that MUST be avoided with S/S as it will eventually cause deep pitting and eventually perforation.

It will corode the metal and make it taste yukky. Pop it in a plastic container instead.

Thanks both - it had only been there a couple of days and I used a teeny amount because I didn't know how much to add. But both my drinkers are galvanised (oh well, back to the wallet!)
