Hello Again...

Recommended Posts

If you noticed I've been away for the past week. Had a really lovely week as it turned out and it was mostly dry-it could have been horrendous if the weather on the way up was any indication-rain, rain, more rain.

We stayed near to Church Stretton in Shropshire and had many visits to Ironbridge and the thing I enjoyed most was the visit to Blists Hill, (A victorian village type set up), they had chickens too! Some rather nice, but HUGE cochins. I even had a go on the merryground, which I'd never done before, so it was definitely worth a visit.

We also went to WERNLAS, which was brilliant fun, and I'm now angling after a little flock of bantams, although I might have to convince my parents, we have a spare house and they wouldn't take up much room and they know I'd look after them, but it's a case of finding breeders near here and sorting out the garden.

Anyway, we then came home to my brother-he's come down for Wells railway exhibition tomorrow and my hens. Spice was moulting when we left, but now she's given up on that idea and is back laying-thankfully! However Muddles has now started moulting, picked her up and gave her a hug and after a lot of flapping half her feathers came out.

They've also sorted out the pecking order between them-it was a bit serious before we left, as Molly had got really aggressive towards Spice and we were thinking we might have to rehome her. Muddles and Spice have slightly scabby combs, but they're at least getting on with each other now. Starlet has also laid a MASSIVE egg!

We also have a racing pigeon which keeps visiting the garden too-apparently it kept trying to come into the kitchen!

Sounds like you had fun! :D

I've been to blists hill when I was in primary school, for a trip, it was very nice :D

I didn't see chickens though :( I probably wasn't looking for them back then

Now Wernlas... That is somewhere I'd like to go

I have my bantams though :P

Hope your parents can be persuaded

Glad to hear your chickens are getting on together now. :)

How big was Starlets egg?

Sounds like you've had a great time, Liz. I love Blists Hill. We go there every couple of years and we were amazed at how much they'd done when we visited a month or so ago. Lots of new shops and things to see. I fell in love with the hens too. Did you see the little Lavender Pekins too near the Doctor's House?

I did have a good time-feel a lot more relaxed now too! I'm going to have to get our hens only to come out in the evening before bantams can be an option as we need to regrow the grass.

I'm not quite sure exactly how big Starlet's egg was, but I will take a picture tomorrow!

We bought the Passport ticket for Ironbridge, which now allows you to go back to attractions within the same year without having to pay again, providing you sign the visitors book, so they can check your signature. They're building a cliff railway at the minute as well-think we'll go back and see it when it's finished as Dad's a bit of a fanatic!
