Hi all,

 

My youngest and smallest girl Poppy has been laying nearly every day for the last month or so but lately the eggs she has been laying are huge and most are double yolkers.

 

Problem is yesterday we let her out at 7am, but she stayed in the nestbox for 4 hours, then laid another huge egg. This morning we did the same and she has still not come out of the nest to have any food or water.

 

Do you think this is normal or something to worry about?

Sounds like she is out for some kind of record. As long as an egg is the result I wouldn't worry. Mine all laid biggish eggs for a month then the size settled down but still large eggs. May be worth watching out for prolapse.

she laid a small egg yesterday and a small one today but she's been in the nestbox all afternoon again! when i went to see her se fluffed up her feathers and went to peck me! i took her put to have some fpd but she went straight back in the nestbox. Could she be broody? she's only 22 weeks old?

Moody woman. I really don't know if she could be broody, I wouldn't have thought so probably thinking about laying another egg if she normally does double yolkers, I suppose she is ovulating twice.

 

Hope someone with experience replies.

If she 'screams' at you then that is a definite sign of broodiness IMHO.

hmmmm.....she was making a rather funny noise when i took her out of the nestbox. i hope she's not going broody already!

Ill see what she's like tomorrow- hopefully back to her usual self!
