New Hen Run on its way.....

Recommended Posts

My husband has decided to build a new hen run for my girls and I am so thrilled I can hardly wait to get home and see it.....

Our puppy keeps chasing my poor hens and trying to play with them when they are out and about which just doesn't work despite us telling her not to. :shameonu: But then she is a spaniel/lab and hundreds of years of breeding won't just disappear unfortunately.

SO hopefully we now have a solution! And we can all live together in perfect harmony!

I can't wait!!! :D:D

hi mags56, lucky you getting a new wir, im still waiting for my new and improved wir!!:lol: (hubby a builder, itll never get done!!)

I have a russell terrier that will not tolerate anything at all (little man sydrome), he does however tolerate my cats and chickens. he plays with the cats, and monitors the chickens. he sits at the side of the eglu run in the morning and counts them as they come out of the eglu, he then keeps a close eye on them as they free range then doesnt settle till theyve gone to bed. It took a couple of days of constant disapline but he did get there with laughable results (i would of never thought he would!!)

So rats, mice, crows, magpies and foxes be very aware that woofie (maxie) is on the prowl, chickens most welcome!:lol::lol::lol::lol:

I would love our dog to "protect" the chickens and although she is getting heaps better (she is only 5 months old) we still have a way to go.......your terrier sounds amazing!!!

How did you train him to do that or is it instinct?

The hen house is fantastic I must say and with the extra height we are looking forward to giving them lots of different levels to explore. However, it's not quite finished yet.....and we are for a poly roof to go on that will let the light through. My hubby runs a roofing company too....so I hope I won't have to wait too long for it

Anyway! When it is done I shall proudly put some photos on here.
