Laying and then not laying

Recommended Posts

My first 3 hens arrived on Friday from Omlet, they are great!

Anyway, Gertrude laid on Saturday and Sunday, but hasn't since. Is this normal? I'm probably worrying about nothing, I suppose I'm just concerned that she's not happy or something.

Their poo seems a little runny, but then I've never seen chicken poo before so I don't know what's normal! It could be fine.

Once pay day comes around I'll get some worming stuff just in case.

Thanks,

Sam

PS: Might not be around - good chance I'll fall asleep but I'll come back in the morning.

Congratulations on your new girls :D .

I shouldn't worry, egg laying can be a bit erratic to begin with and it's also quite normal for their poos to be a bit squittery at the start. It should settle down soon.

If their poos are still a bit yucky after a while, Bokashi Bran is a good thing to put in their pellets. It firms up the poos and is good for their digestion too :) . Garlic powder is also good for reducing the smell (and good for them!) if you find that a problem  .
