Clare L
One of our younger girls layed her first egg this morning She had been crouching for a few days, so we thought it might happen soon. It is not our first egg, as our omlet girls were laying when they arrived, but it is much more special as we have been waiting and anticipating it So we feel like it is our first egg. She is an Amber Lee and although they are supposed to lay brown eggs, this one is looking quite white. Do eggs sometimes start a lighter colour when they begin laying, or do you think this will be the colour of her eggs? Our other Amber Lee is not laying as yet, but is also crouching, which makes me think she is thinking about laying, but her comb is still very small - hardly a comb at all and not very red (compared to the one who layed today) which makes me think she is not about to lay. She is just 20 weeks. Should I also be watching the egg port in anticipation for her laying now...??
xScrunchee
Congatulations on your first egg that you have had to wait for It's possible that the other hen will be laying soon if she is crouching. I would definitely be keeping an eye on the egg port
Ain't Nobody Here
Congratulations on the first egg . The colour may well change - Maisie's started out olive green then faded to pale green.
