4Clucks-minusOne
My little chicken Roxy has been unwell for a few days. I first noticed she was just standing still ,eyes closed, and head hunched up while the others were free ranging. She moved around with them but didn't scratch in the soil etc. I went out to them and she came across to me so I put her back in the run thinking she could be ready to lay a softie. She seemed to perk up when bedtime treats were given. The next day she was scratching around but when offered some grass she didn't seem to have any strength in her beak to peck at it (lost her pecking aggression). Even when I cut some up for her she pecked at it but it stuck out of the corner of her beak. It seemed like she had a sore throat or mouth. She went back to scratching and I noticed she was much brighter. She laid as normal yesterday. Then last night she went still again, closing her eyes and opening/closing her beak a little. I brought her in and checked her all over. She is loosing feathers from her tummy so keeps dropping her head to preen her chest. She had some yoghurt which normally she wouldn't bother with and some grapes. I put her back in the eglu and checked her at various times before going to bed. This morning I let them out and she jumped down from the run with the others. She just stood still again, closing her eyes and opening her beak a little. She has had some water, a little yoghurt and oats but gain she doesn't seem to have any strength in her beak to eat and swallow the oats. She pecked at a few pellets but without any enthusiasm. Has anyone experienced similar symptoms with any of their girls please?
Egluntyne
Sounds like she has lost her appetite. Has she been wormed recently? Any weight loss, signs of lice, or mites in the housing?
4Clucks-minusOne
Thank you for replying Egluntine. She was wormed about 10 weeks ago. No sign of lice or mites in the house(taken apart, cleaned and checked 2 weeks ago). She is still eating and she has laid this morning. Oh was in charge today and he said she was quite happy this afternoon, scratching about and dustbathing. I'll watch her in the morning when I let them out first thing.
