Day 19 - Slightly Underwhelming So Far

Recommended Posts

Hi,

My first ever hatch are in the incubator and today is Day 19. Being genned up on all the books and forums and everything I expect to happen, today is meant to be 'pipping' day. For the benefit of the exact timings, the days in my incubator run from 23:22 every night (because of when I kicked the incubator off) so Day 19 started last night and has about 7 hours to run.

The auto-turning stopped as expected last night and for the first time I noticed independent movement, i.e. if you watch the eggs they wobble a little bit of their own accord which is very exciting!

Anyway, went to bed, got up today, and have been going back and forth all day only to see nothing happen. I was expecting to see some little cracks appearing or holes appearing as the chick attempted to start to get out of it's egg but nothing so far. They are still all wobbling around every now and then which gives me every confidence they are still fine.

Am I just being comically impatient or should I have had at least one be a little more entertaining for me so far :) There are 14 eggs in there and they can be viewed on ...

Anyone's thought who has experience of hatching?

4 of the remainder are silkie eggs (I'm classifying them as large fowl though), 5 are Gold Brahmas and 5 are Lavendar Araucanas.

So I'm getting the sneaking suspicion that I'm being hasty here!

As it happens, this has proved quite handy, as whilst I am prepared to put the new arrivals into temporary accommodation if necessary, the permanent residence and it's intricacies (see my other post about heat lamps) has meant that I could do with a 48 hour reprieve which I appear to be getting :)

So nothing too surprising that a) I'm being impatient and b) nothing is really happening at the moment?

Just keep watching. Some eggs, especially LF, can go for 23 days before anything emerges, so don't panic yet. Watch the humidity levels, and don't open the lid unless absolutely necessary.

Techy tip : If you have a dynamic IP address, just apply for a free URL from someone like http://www.no-ip.com or http://www.dyndns.com. These will automatically track your changing IP, so you don't have to worry. Then, rather than using an IP address in your camera link, you'd put the supplied URL. The URL is always the same, conversion to the underlying dynamic IP address is managed by the DNS servers. Simple, free and easy.
