thebdj
Another question for you! This is fast becoming my favourite site on the interweb! What temperature and humidity do you have your chicks at in the incubator throughout the different stages? I have an RCOM Pro 20 with the automatic incubation function and it has thus far been doing it's thing quite nicely. Auto-turns the eggs once an hour every hour through about 180 degrees for the first 19 days and then stops. Temperature remained at 37.5 degress until day 19 and then reduced to 37 degrees. Humidity remained at 45% until day 19 and has now risen to 60%. Are these settings the best that I could hope for or am I better fine tuning this? Everything seems to be fairly consistent from what I can find on the web except for the humidity where a lot of people seem to suggest something nearer 75%. That's all well and good but there seems to be as equal an amount of literature saying that too high humidity increases 'dead-in-shell' chicks. What do you reckon? Redwing
I wouldnt fine tune it, the Rcoms are some of the best incubators around and they know exactly what they are doing! they are supposed to be a 'don't mess with it' set up so you can trust they have it bang on The first chick out will raise the humidity further, I think in my (cheap, low tech) inccy it started at 45, I raised it to 60 for the last few days and the chicks hatching peaked it to 80 at a few points And this is the best site on the internet!
