I have grown sarpo mira potatoes last year and this year. They are the only potatoes that dont get affected by blight. This year I grew a couple of ist earlies - orla and another , charlottes , hunter , nicola and sarpo mira. the others all were affected by blight. they even touched the leaves of the sarpo mira pots but still the sarpo werent affected. The leaves are only just staring to go over now!

I have been really pleased with them!

this is partly why I'm asking I've grown mira since it first came on the market this is the second time I've had problems with it but the first time it's got both tuber ans foliar blight,it was also one of the first to get blight this year I also know of at least 3 other people that have lost it to both types of blight one no organic the other couldn't remember with they brought

We have grown Sarpo for the first time this year and they haven't died back yet, so they are still in the ground as are our Axona and Golden Wonder.

We have taken up the other main crops spuds with the following results.

Ambo (organic) large boulder shaped potatoes a couple of which were blighted but most ok, very few slug holes, good yield.

Desiree - good yield of medium sized potatoes but from a 30ft row we threw away a washing up bowl full of blighted tubers and will have to check the sacks for the next 6 weeks or so if they are to keep. We had the same problem with Desiree a couple of years back but they were fine last year. One of the tastiest main crop potatoes.

Picasso - good yield of medium to large potatoes very clean and only a couple of blighted ones. last year all of our Picasso were very deeply split, this is the only time that this has happened so maybe it was a problem with the seed or the irregular water supply.

Lady Balfour - good yield or medium sized potatoes very clean only a few blighted ones.

Hi I bought my potatoes from a potato day in January. I have no idea whether they are organic or not but have a feeling they may not be! I bought the Sarpo pots from a small table that was separate from the other potatoes, I assume that the potatoes were sent from Thompson and Morgan

thats were the axona came from i think the only other mira on the alotments came from that potato day and there doing alright mine came from a potato day that was held the same weekend

This is the first time I've grown potatoes in the ground. We had picasso and the free Hunters that we all sent for in spring. When I got back from holiday at the beginning of August, all the foliage had gone, blight I presume (I think our whole allotment wasaffected). So I dug up eveything. I thought it ws a very good yield from both varieties, good sized tubers and none that looked blighted so hopefully I got them out in time. I've had some lovely big spuds from the Hunters.

You are usually ok if they come up sound, but it is a good idea to have a sort through them once a fortnight of so in the first 6 weeks to take out any dodgy ones.

I wish I've lost tubers to blight in store right though the winter.

had an Edzell blue saturday night that looked good until I cut it in half that was blighted and they came out 'clean' 3 weeks ago
