Hi everyone, new to this forum but need some advice if anyone has any please. Have kept chickens for the last 4 years, mainly rescued barn hens with the addition of a few unusual ones!

This morning one of my precious flock was attached by a passing dog. I live in an wonderful remote area but do have a footpath alongside my house. My chickens are all very much free rance, they have a massive barn at the bottom of the garden which they roost in etc...

Fortunately she only seems to have lost most of her feathers in the attach, no puncture wounds with the exception of her eye, I can see much damage around it but she now has the white lid permanently closed on one side.

I dont know whether to leave well alone or to bathe it. Have brought her in to the utility to recouperate!!

Thanks

Hello and welcome to the Forum :D

I've moved your question to the Chicken section as you will get more responses (people don't always venture into the welcome section)

Sorry to hear one of your girls was attacked this morning :( I hope she recovers soon :D

A very good idea to bring her indoors where you can watch her closely. I would be inclined to bathe her eye very gently with some warm water and keep a close eye on it (excuse the pun). It may well need a trip to the vets if the eye is very damaged.

I know one or two people on here have had chooks with eye injuries and hopefully they will be able to offer some more advice :D

Hi and welcome. One of our hens had some sort of injury to her eye ( dont know if it was pecked or she caught it on somehting) and kept it closed most of the time. We took her to the vets and he injected some antibiotics and gave us some eye drops to administer. After about a week she was back to normal and has been absolutely fine since. Good luck and let us know how you get on :D
