adam gates
Hi all We are new to keeping Chickens and have had ours for 2 months and up until now have had fit and healthy chickens. We noticed one of our three was a little off colour and wasn't following us around as normal but sat hunched with tail down in the corner of the garden, we put out some food and water near her which she had a little of, but remained hunched. This morning she remained in the coop and didn't come out for an hour, but then went straight to the corner which is when we noticed poo clung to her feathers below her vent, but her vent looks perfectly healthy. I've seen her drink (has poultry drink in it) but not eat. We left the house for a couple of hours and when we returned she was back in the coop all hunched and lethargic. I still haven't seen her eat! Having read many posts we thought it maybe a soft egg or she may be egg bound due to having all the relevant symptoms. On inspection of her we lifted her up to discover a perfectly healthy egg (although a lot later in the day than usual). Followed by a very runny bright white poo. Has anyone got any ideas to what could be wrong? Im hoping she'll perk up now she's laid
CluckyBucks
Hello The white part of a bird's poo is the wee, so i think it was 'bright' because she has been drinking and not eating. Is she broody maybe?? If your worried, i suppose you could ring a vet/poultry expert. Hope this helps xx xx P.s, welcome to the forum
Egluntyne
She could have a soft egg on the way. It can make them very poorly. Have you wormed her?
adam gates
She's laid an egg today which was perfectly fine and we use Verm-X every month to keep worms at bay. So im really confused. Thanks for your response
Chucky Mama
I would advise using Flubenvet as a wormer instead of Verm-x.
