Eglu capacity ?

Recommended Posts

How many quail can i keep in an eglu and eglu run ?

would also like to know what breeds are readily available and what colour eggs they lay ?

are all breeds a similar size ? and can you mix the breeds together ?

The plan is to build a wir for the hens with a cube outside so i can increase the number of hens i have, and use the eglu at the other end for the quails,

maybee have a small covered area in the wir for them with the eglu run coming off the wir, that way i can seperate them in the wir and have full access to the eglu run for cleaning etc without them escaping.

I'd think you could probably get 8 quail in an eglu?

Common breeds are Japanese and Chinese Painted Quail - there are other more aviary birds that need a bit more space/flying room like Californian Quail or Gambels Quail.

Japs are probably the best to get to keep for eggs because they're a bit bigger than CPQ. Their eggs are small light coloured with brown spots on.

I wouldn't mix Japs and CPQ, but Japs come in many colour variations, they can be mixed and should get on fine together :D
