Solista and Ying Yang Beans

Recommended Posts

I've grown these for the first time this year and have a superb crop of them.

I've just looked at both and both have cream coloured beans in so I presume I need to leave them on the plant a little longer for the markings to appear?

Edit - have just looked at an older looking Solista bean and it does have the markings! can't wait for the Ying Yang ones to get theirs!

leave them until the pods are nearly dry if you whnt to keep them over winter then finnish them off in the green house for a week or two then pod them then leave them out for a few weeks to dry completley them bag them up just keep an eye on the weather I lost most of mine last year due to it going cold and wet before they were dry enougth to pickp.s at least you only got 2 types I've got 8 or 9 3 of which are they same colour as yours plus 2 that are blue and 2 purple podded

never had any luck with ying yang had them flower but never set pods

I've got lots of pods on the Ying Yang - I hope the weather holds; The blue/green ones sound lovely.

Can I use the runner beans in the same way? - the ones which have made seeds - I have more than enough for next yesrs seed.

if you dry runner beans when you come to use them you have to soak them over night then wash them and throw the water away the same as kidney beans

the blue/green one are purple polish or blue and white got them from the seed swap at Ryton's potato day

its not a very good photo but all but 4 of the bean varieties are mine and most of the toms
