FunkyChook
Hi I have read a lot of stuff about softies on her but I'm in a bit of a different situation to what I have read. I have 3 girls who were all bought at the same time. Two of whom started laying at about 20 weeks. The third one is a bit of a runt chicken. The breeder offered to replace her but by the time I realised that she wasn't right she ws already aprt of the family. She is very small and hasn't grown like the other two. She also walks with a limp due to some bone wastage at the top of her leg (My boss is a vet so x-rayede her for me). So she hasn't layed until now and she layed a softie on Saturday, under a bush not in the nest box. Today she has another sofite, this time on the bars of the eglu, so it has broken and fallen through. I'm hoping that calcium can sort it out, but I'm not sure if it is to do with her being so little. Any advice appreciated. Just to note they all have access to oyster shell and grit and layers pellets. As well as free ranging all day. Crikey thats long. Thanks if you got this far
Redwing
A couple of my chickens have produced softies for their first eggs, it cant be easy producing one I suppose! Mine settled down within two weeks and now produce normal eggs I wouldnt rush in with the supplements at the moment, see if it sorts itself out first then try some limestone flour mixed in with the feed if it persists
