Insulating the house.

Recommended Posts

You shouldn't really need to insulate the house :) . It is designed with a double shell (or something technical!) to provide adequate insulation. Remember too, that chickens' body temperature is a couple of degrees higher than humans so they won't feel the cold as much as we do.

Do you have an eglu or cube? Obviously the fuller your house is of chickens the warmer they can keep each other  .

My 3 girls have been through 2 winters with sub-zero temperatures and plenty of snow and didn't seem to mind at all :) .

I did on a couple of occasions, drape one of those picnic rugs with plastic backing over the eglu but it was such a faff trying to keep in on, I gave up  .

You can buy something called a Snugglesafe (and a few forum members have, I think) but it's not really necessary.

Sorry, that was a real ramble :lol: . But I hope it reassures you :) .
