4m x 3m Omlet pen, cube, new auto door still boxed and coop light

Morning ladies.

 

I noticed when one of my chickens was bending down to eat, where the back feathers finish and the tail feathers start, was a small bald area of skin and what looked like a large pimple sticking up. Red at the bottom, and white at the top. About 3/4 wide and about 15mm long.

 

Very strange, it seems to be part of the skin, almost like an infected feather follicle or something, the skin around it is fine.

 

Very worried I check the others and they all have the same.

 

Should I panic, I can't say I have noticed this before.

It sounds as though you have found the oil gland. They rub their heads over it whilst preening themselves.

Sas is right its completely normal just a bit scary if you have not noticed it before
