Think my Lily is a girl by looks (too rainy to take piccie at moment will post later) but occasionally before eglu door is opened in the morning she has made this really loud grating swawk. Not really sure that it sounds like crowing but was worried maybe she is starting and it is just a learning crow

 

Could anyone with a 20 week or so araucana piccie post some pics for me so I can look at boys and girls at that age and re think! I know some were posted before but cannot find them

Here are some pictures of my Araucana, Lucy, though I'm pretty sure she is crossed with something else; she never grew the tuft of the head. Lucy is much more noisier than she used to be - she usually likes to announce everyone else’s egg as well as her own.

Lucy's tail is nicer than Lily's. Aaaagh still not sure. Must get some piccies up. Thanks for that. Lily has loads of bearding and the top knot is developing well Lucy does look like she is crossed with something, I agree, couldn't tell what though

I've got one of each and they're 16 weeks old now: the girl has no comb to speak of hidden in the tuft of her hairdo; the boy has a pea comb and a very red face.... and is making a squawky crow. I'll try to find photos to post

they're not close-ups but you get the idea. They were born on 22 June, so you can compare ages.

Thanks for those. Lily's comb is definately not as large as Basil's, although she is red in the face. Just realised that she will be 21 weeks tomorrow , surely I should realise by now what she is. Will get some pictures, probably muddy, of her later!

Tasha, how old is he? The head area looks very like Lily's What are his feathers like towards the back - Lily's saddle feathers are quite rounded

He is about 12 weeks I think (I lose track) and his feathers are very rounded, I decided he was a boy as his face went red at about 6 weeks, also most barred araucanas are male - that can apparently make them easy to sex at a young age
